How We Started

The Hope 4 Children Foundation (formal name approval pending) started with one man’s desire to help people in his home country of El Salvador have a better life.  Obed Urquilla left El Salvador in his early 20s and, like thousands of other people who leave their home countries to work abroad, routinely sent money home to help his family.

As the years progressed, the network of people that Obed helped began to grow, first to his large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and then to friends and acquaintances, and at times, total strangers, who had learned of his generosity and reached out to him for help.  While he wanted to assist everyone who asked, the list of needs simply outpaced one man’s ability to help.  This was the genesis of Hope 4 Children.

A Facebook page outlining the concept was launched in 2016, followed in early 2017 by the filing of the paperwork to formally establish the Hope 4 Children Foundation as a not-for-profit organization based in Canada. As soon as the organizational status is finalized, work will commence to get registered charity status with the Canadian Revenue Agency. In the meantime, we are busy working towards achieving our goal of helping children and families in need.
